We believe a multidisciplinary approach and a team perspective are essential for achieving high success and satisfaction rates.

Spinal surgeries are performed by spine surgeons. In Turkey, spine surgeons have either an orthopedic or neurosurgery background—complementary yet distinct approaches to similar conditions. Therefore, it is ideal for orthopedic and neurosurgery-based spine surgeons to perform spinal deformity operations together. We also believe that to perform the safest surgery, it’s beneficial to have the presence of other surgeons and specialists—such as thorax surgeons and vascular surgeons.

In addition, using neuromonitorization is extremely important for avoiding neural injury, especially in complex spinal deformity surgeries. This procedure should be performed by a neurologist or trained specialists under the surveillance of a neurologist.

Nurse coordinators are responsible for care in the ward and after discharge. The nurse coordinator is different than an inpatient clinic nurse. After discharge, it may be difficult to contact your surgeon. However, the nurse coordinator is always available and readily on-call to facilitate communication with the patient and doctor, when necessary.

Implant technologies and spinal surgery techniques are rapidly improving. Therefore, some techniques become undesirable as new techniques emerge. A spinal health and surgery center, therefore, should have an annual evaluation registry. Results of such evaluations may be submitted to scientific journals or presented in scientific congresses. Research coordinators collect such information. In order to offer the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatment to patients, doctors in a spine center should follow these innovations and contribute to the literature.
